Why Cloudberry?

Cloudberry, also known as aqpik by the native Alaskans, or low-bush salmonberry, is scientifically recognized by its botanical name of Rubus chamaemorus. It is a circumpolar plant, meaning it exists in the arctic and subarctic of the northern hemisphere. It belongs to the family of the rose species, which also contains, cherries, apples, pears, almonds and roses.

Cloudberry contains high levels of vitamin C, flavonoids such as ellagic acid which helps preserve the fruit if it is stored in cool temperatures. It also contains citric acid, malic acid.

It has antioxidant and sun-protective properties. Word of caution: even though it may have sun- protective properties, it is not tested by the stringent rules that calculate SPF and you still need your sunscreen to prevent photoaging and extrinsic (and unnecessary) damage to your skin.

Cloudberry oil is recommended for people with sensitive, dry, irritated skin. It is regenerative due to its high concentration of linoleic and linolenic acids. Cloudberry oil is excellent for stressed skin.

Why Astaxanthin?

Astaxanthin is a powerful antioxidant found in the alga Haematococcus pluvialis and it gives a pinkish color to animals that eat this alga, like salmon, shrimp, flamingoes. The more stressed the alga is from environmental factors ( like too much light, not enough nutrients, etc) the more it produces astaxanthin.

Astaxanthin are red crystals that are insoluble in water. It protects the skin against oxidative stress from light or chemicals. It helps keep the vitality of the skin and helps enhance skin defense.

The antioxidant effect of astaxanthin is much higher than that of Vitamin C, E or Co Enzyme Q 10.

Our astaxanthin active comes in microspheres to enhance penetration in the skin and increase efficacy of our product.
